A bit about VICSES

VICSES is a volunteer based organisation responding to emergencies and working to ensure the safety of communities around Victoria.

VICSES is the lead agency when responding to floods, storms and earthquakes and operates the largest network of road rescue in Australia.

VICSES also provides assistance to other emergency services such as Victoria Police, and to municipal councils in planning and auditing their emergency management plans.

There are more than 5500 committed and dedicated volunteers around the state who provide these services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

VICSES Volunteers

VICSES is made up of volunteers from a variety of ages, professions and backgrounds. The common link is their desire to work as part of a team that gives back to the community they live in.

There are more than 5,500 VICSES volunteers state wide, all of whom provide their services free of charge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

VICSES volunteers contribute many hours of their time in different ways.

They may undertake training and accreditation in operational roles such as storm, flood and road rescue preparation and response. Volunteers may also assist their Units in coordinating media, community events, training, logistics or management aspects.

All roles require skills that the volunteers develop through training and practice, and combined, help to make their communities stronger and safer.

Volunteers are encouraged to continually develop and update their skills by partaking in the various courses and training programs provided by VICSES.

Many of the volunteers in VICSES belong to an association called the Victoria Emergency Service Association (VESA). VESA is an organisation that was created to represent the volunteers of VICSES and ensure that their views are heard. VESA is actively supported by VICSES and consults through committees when issues arise that affect volunteers.
